When a person receives a gift, it is always a heart-moving experience.  At this moment, our minds can effortlessly race back through the years and recall colorful Christmas packages and big birthday presents.  In the Bible, God deliberately used the work "gift" to clearly describe what salvation is in regard to lost mankind.

"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."  Romans 6:23.

There are 3 things that are true of God's wonderful "gift".

1.)  IT IS PURCHASED.

"which he hath purchased with his own blood."  Acts 20:28.

Gifts are always purchased.  You have never received a present and had someone say, "Now, that will be $10.50."  If you have, that wasn't a present, but a purchase.  When the Lord Jesus Christ went to Calvary, shed His powerful blood, laid down His life, and then three days later rose again from the dead.  He completely PAID MAN'S FULL PRICE FOR SALVATION.  This is why no one goes to Heaven by "trying," but instead by "trusting" in the finished work of Calvary.

2.)  IT IS PERSONAL.

"Ye must be born again." .John 3:7

Gifts are always personal.  Many times you have received presents with your name written on the packages.  You probably said or heard someone say, "Salvation, trusting Christ, and having my sins forgiven are all personal things!"  Those statements are 100% accurate!  The only person who can decide where you are going to spend eternity (Heaven or Hell) is you. The individual whose reflection you see in the bathroom mirror every morning.

3.)  IT IS PRECIOUS.

"to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ."  II Peter 1:1

Gifts are always precious.  There are presents that you possess today that you wouldn't trade for three times their value.  When a person realizes that he or she is a sinner (deserving of Hell) and receives the Lord Jesus Christ as their Saviour, the peace, joy and the privilege of being able to go to God in prayer become the things that mean more to him than all the trinkets of this temporal world.

Don't forget that receiving God's gift means going to Heaven when you die, and rejecting God's gift means going to Hell when you die.  If you would like to receive, "the gift of God", then right now, bow your head and pray...

"Heavenly Father, I know that I am a sinner.

I believe that Jesus Christ is the Saviour.

When He died, was buried and rose again from the dead,

I believe He paid and purchased my salvation for me.

This moment, I place my trust in Him

to forgive and save me and

I claim Him as my Saviour.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the wonderful gift of God!

In Jesus' name, Amen."
